On my way to my first spin class this morning. Crisp.
Finished reading: The Hobbit by J. R. R. Tolkien π
I was always really intimidated by the sheer size of this book, but flew through it in less than a week. As with a couple of other old sci-fi books I’ve read recently, the older language used does slow down my pace slightly. Knowing the story does nothing to impact the storytelling. 9/10
Last night was daunting, I haven’t tried something for the first time in quite a while - but that was kind of the point. I had a great time during my trial lesson of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, and am really looking forward to going back for more.
Tonight Iβm attending my first BJJ class, super excited.

I spent this morning floating in my own private ocean.
Just watched: Zombieland: Double Tap πΏ
For the first 20 minutes of this film I was never more than a minute away from turning it off. It starts slowly, with way more dialogue than you want from a comedy-apocalypse film. Once the clunky exposition and story-setting were out of the way, it ended up half-decent. 5/10
Lazy Saturdays
Just ran 5.06km in 28:47, in your face treadmill. πββοΈ
Alex is the best boy.
Just ran 3.37km in 20:13. I was hoping to go further today, but have been training indoors and having some problems with the treadmill. It stopped when I got this far and that threw me off my pace. π
Super excited to see Alfred Molina as Mr Freeze. His Doc Ock was ace.
The past couple of weeks have been a nightmare for commuting. The recent floods have blocked my 2 main routes in to work, leaving the 3rd and only other route completely decimated by traffic.
Last week I spent most days working from home, but needing to be in the office this week I opted to instead shift my working hours and have been getting up and in to work super early.
Itβs been great, Iβve felt much more productive and have been able to get out of the office and home much earlier, too.
Just ran 5.04km in 30:17, my first 5k in quite a while.
I felt like I made some great progress in yoga class last night. Iβm certainly stronger in my core after the time Iβve been putting in at the gym, but Iβm finding my tight hamstrings are the hardest thing I have yet to overcome.
More downward dog.
Climbing this week has been great.
Really looking forward to a day at The Floating Spa this weekend. Sensory deprivation & relaxation.
Just watched: Hustlers πΏ
What a great movie. I love the narrative plot-device and this one was done really well.
Just watched: Joker πΏ
We waited until this was available on Apple TV before we watched it. I think I echo most reviews I’ve read or listened to when I say it’s a fantastic film about mental health and societies approach to dealing with those on a decline. I love that it attached itself to the DC universe to tell that story; the way I thought it subtly achieved that made me love it more. Shout out to the silhouette of Heath Ledger’s joker hidden in the detective. 10/10
Just watched: Uncut Gems πΏ
What an absolute thrill this movie was. Adam Sandler’s performance delivered on everything I was expecting from reviews I’d read and watched in the last few weeks. I loved the pace, the style and the music. 10/10
Finished reading: Happy: Why More or Less Everything is Absolutely Fine by Derren Brown π
I seemed to subscribe to a lot of the life lessons Derren Brown presented in this book, but found it interesting taking a new perspective on what had, over time, become a normal approach for me. Similar in it’s approach to the stoic lessons I learned in Atomic Habits by James Clear, presented with more delight. 7/10
